PANGASINAN – A former barangay councilor was arrested 72 hours after he allegedly killed a businesswoman inside a motel in Barangay Cabilocaan, Calasiao town here.
Calasiao Police Chief Lt. Col. Ferdinand de Asis identified the suspect as Renato G. Abalos, 49, a resident and former councilor of Barangay Darawery, Bayambang town.
Abalos was accused of killing Brenda Bruno of Barangay Cabating, Malasiqui town.
Bruno was found dead in a room at the 168 Inn in Barangay Cabilocaan, Calasiao on October 4.
“He admitted to have killed the victim by strangling her with his bare hands and with the use of pillow,” police said.
Base on the CCTV footage of the establishment, a tricycle driven by Abalos arrived at the motel with Bruno in the sidecar at around 9:30 a.m., October 3.
Subsequently, Abalos left the motel onboard his tricycle before a room attendant discovered the body of the victim lying on the floor.
Police said Abalos claimed to have killed the victim after their heated argument.
But the police also looking into angle of robbery because cash belonging to the victim amounting to P200,000 was missing.
A case for murder is now being prepared against Abalos.
