The visibly overweight Keith Thurman who showed up earlier in the week to promote his July 20 fight against Manny Pacquiao promises to be in terrific shape come fight night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“I got a little bit of a sweet tooth,” said Thurman during the New York stop of the whirlwind promotional tour that ended in Los Angeles.
Thurman, ten years younger at 30, admits that his weight during breaks from fights hits 170 as he feasts on a food intake stuffed with too much “cheesecakes and ice cream.”
“I know I got a little bit more weight to work on than Manny does but we’ve kickstarted the diet (program),” said Thurman, who packs a 29-0 record with 22 KOs.
While touring, Thurman reveals that he was 168 lbs, 21 lbs above the welterweight max but is unfazed, saying that is just normal in-between fights.
Sporting bulging biceps during his two encounters with the svelte 40-year-Pacquiao, Thurman adds that his weight sometimes goes up to 170 lbs.
Still, shedding off excess baggage won’t be a problem as his team has commenced training as early as a few weeks back.
“We knew we’d be away for the press tour,” said Thurman, who lives and trains in sunny Florida.
Pacquiao had also began pre-conditioning workout before attending the press tour and upon his arrival in Manila, he was already in the gym in the afternoon.
By the time their paths cross again in Sin City, Pacquiao and especially Thurman, are going to be battle-ready.
Save the cheesecake and ice cream for later.
