The Philippine Archers tip their caps to spectators.

After winning their first two games, the Archers couldn’t sustain a 2-1 lead as Redondo Beach erupted for eight runs in the second and third innings to earn the right to face Navojoa, Mexico in the championship game.

The team fell one win short of reaching the finals after posting victories over host Chesterfield, Virginia and San Antonio, Texas in the tournament that used a single-elimination format.

Alfonso Alcantara scored the go-ahead run in the top half of the seventh against Chesterfield after second baseman Wyatt Capps committed an error while fielding Alejandro Bustamante’s groundball.

Pitcher Jan Soriano retired all three batters in the bottom half of the inning to seal the deal for the Archers.

Alcantara’s two-run hit gave the Archers a 3-1 lead against San Antonio in the bottom half of the first before Zephyr Tolentino and Laurence Valeros scored on an error in the second to make it 5-2.

San Antonio moved to within 7-5 in the top of the sixth but Aljun Tapia retired Jake Hernandez for the final out and doubled to center in the bottom half of the inning, scoring Valeros to settle the final count in the Archers’ favor.
