JAMES de los Santos is on his way of clinching the World No. 1 ranking in online karateka after winning the gold medal in the 13th Okinawa E-Tournament World Series and making it to the semifinals in the 1st Euro Grand Prix E-Tournament 2020 and the E-Karate Games.
Based on last week’s ranking the Cebuano karateka is on the No. 2 spot with 8, 110 points and is nearing the No. 1 rank Eduardo Garcia of Portugal who has 8, 575 points.
The ranking will probably change this week since the 30-year-old de los Santos won another gold medal in the 13th Okinawa E-Tournament World Series, which is worth around 405 to 435 points.
Which means if you add the count on his recent gold medal de los Santos is just around 30 to 60 points short of the World No. 1. De los Santos momentum does not stop there as he made it to the semifinal round of Euro Grand Prix E-Tournament 2020 and in the E-Karate Games.
Making it to the semis already guarantees de los Santos some points, much more if he wins the gold medal. As of press time, the results of the two semifinals are not yet out.
“A gold medal is worth 405 or 435 points. Right now, I only need 30 or 60 more points,” he told the Manila Times after winning against Matias Moreno-Domont, 25.26-24.6, in the gold medal match of the Okinawa E-Tournament World Series.
De los Santos handed Domont another defeat, this time in the semifinals of the 1st Euro Grand Prix E-Tournament with a score of 24.4-23.6.
“And it looks like it’s going to bound to happen,” said de los Santos of his chances of getting that World No. 1.
