ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will begin distributing some P3 billion as a Christmas gift to some 350,000 old-age and disability pensioners throughout the country in early December.
This was disclosed in a report by GSIS Chairman and Acting President Rolando Ledesma Macasaet, who said the pensioners’ so-called Christmas bonus would be credited to their e-card a few days before December 25 so that they could spend it in celebrating the holidays with their families.
Macasaet, a native of Zamboanga City who was appointed in early 2018 by President Rodrigo Duterte, added that those entitled to receive their cash gift “are pensioners under Republic Act (RA) 8291, RA 660 and Presidential Decree 1146, who are receiving their regular monthly pension and are still living as of Nov. 30, 2019. ̋̋
He said pensioners whose 2018 Christmas gift was more than P10,000 would receive an amount equivalent to one month pension up to P12,000, while those whose Yuletide cash gift was P10,000 and below would be granted one month of their current pension up to a maximum of P10,000.
The GSIS chief added that pensioners who resumed their regular monthly pension after Dec. 31, 2018 (after the five-year guarantee period) are entitled to one month of their current pension up to a maximum of P10,000.
He said those not entitled to receive the Christmas incentive ˝are basic survivorship pensioners, dependent pensioners and pensioners under RA 7699 or the “Portability Law.”
Macasaet added that those also not entitled to avail of the benefit ̎are retirees who received in advance their guaranteed pensions in the form of lump sums and who are still within the guaranteed period and who will be resuming their regular monthly pensions after Dec. 31, 2019.
He said new retirees between 2015 and 2019 who availed of immediate pension under RA 8291 will not yet receive the cash incentive this year…as they “will start getting their Christmas incentive five years after their retirement date.”
According to him, GSIS members who resigned or separated from the government between 2006 and 2019 before reaching age 60 and who started receiving their regular monthly pension between 2015 and 2019 ̋will get the cash gift once they have been regular pensioners for at least five years. ̎
