Operating hours at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) have been extended beyond the regular eight-hour operating service to facilitate more transactions, its top official said Monday.
Customs brokers, processors, and other stakeholders transacting with the bureau were encouraged to take advantage of the extended operating hours of the major port.
Lawyer Erastus Sandino Austria, MICP district collector, said that the port will be rendering overtime from April 22 until the end of the month.
“The port will continue to process transactions past its 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. operating hours. Brokers, processors, and others who are transacting with the port are assured that they will be entertained even past the port’s office hours,” Austria said.
The district collector added that, with the extended operating hours, they aim to “finish backlog and facilitate trade.”
Meanwhile, Austria reported that the port’s revenue collection target for the month was on track.
“MICP performance is much better this year,” he said. “We are working hard to hit the target. I ask for your support to reach out to our transacting public through your publications,” he told reporters in a bid to get more transactions before the month ends. (Betheena Kae Unite)
