We’re into the final month of 2019 and what a year it has been for pop culture fans. People binge-watched the latest seasons of Stranger Things and The Crown instantly after they were released, numerous conventions dropped news and rumors that fed our expectations, and Avengers: Endgame broke record after record after record.
But as the last days of the year tick by, it sounds like a good idea to just lie around and enjoy the cool December weather and pop on the screen what final surprises 2019 has in store. Luckily one need not look far because Netflix has a packed year-end catalogue, and we’ve taken out some to put on our must-watch list—no company but snacks and drinks necessary.
At long last, the highly-anticipated fantasy series starring Henry Cavill will finally stream on Netflix this Dec. 20, and we will get to see Superman himself step into Geralt of Rivia’s boots. The series follows Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.
The Two Popes
Also streaming this Dec. 20 is the Telluride and Toronto Film Festival sleeper hit The Two Popes directed by City of God’s Fernando Meirelles starring Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce. Inspired by true events, The Two Popes focuses on a series of conversations between Pope Benedict XVI and Cardinal Bergoglio before the former chooses to retire his position as the Holy Father.
Lost in Space (Season 2)
Maxwell Jenkins’ Will and the rest of the Robinsons return on Christmas Eve, but they must all work together with Dr. Smith (Parker Posey) and Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) if they ever want to return to Resolute and survive the dark depths of space.
You (Season 2)
Watch out, or someone else could be watching you. You returns for a second season, with Penn Badgley’s Joe now laying low and hiding from his ex in Los Angeles. Can he deal with the past to make a fresh start, this time with the right woman? Find out this Dec. 26.
