The establishment of learning hubs in communities nationwide by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) followed strict health protocols and was done in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd), its spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Vice presidential spokesman Barry Gutierrez assured the safety of students going to the learning facilities amid the threat of the coronavirus disease.
(In every step our office has taken for the launch of this program, we have informed the DepEd),” he said.
(And to keep safe the learners and tutors, we ensure the strict implementation of the safety protocols of our learning hubs),” he added.
Gutierrez made the assurance after the simultaneous launch of the learning hubs on Monday in various pilot sites across the country.
Vice President Leni Robredo personally attended the opening of a facility in Pasig City. She then visited another center in Taytay, Rizal, where she met the volunteer tutors and students.
The OVP and its private partners have set up learning hubs in communities to support learners in their studies through free access to computers, gadgets, and the internet.
This is part of Robredo’s Bayanihan E-skwela program that seeks to assist parents, teachers, and students in the shift to distance learning.
Gutierrez explained students have assigned schedules when they can use the gadgets and internet in the hubs that are near their homes.
(It’s only within walking distance from the houses of students. They are not required to go to the hubs every day),” he noted.
(The learners will only visit the hubs when they need assistance in their worksheets. In every hub, there are also assigned schedulers who will facilitate the time and day of the learners’ visits),” Gutierrez said.
