No doubt many of us are still adjusting to the new normal.

Some actors who have agreed to resume work amid the ongoing pandemic are in the same boat.

They have to contend with health protocols, which include locked-in tapings that take them away from their families for some time.

Of course, it goes without saying the families they leave behind also have to learn to adjust with them.

The stars of “Prima Donnas” recently shared how they went about it in a recent interview.

According to Katrina Halili, a single mom, she had to take time to actually explain to her daughter the whys and hows of it.

“Mahirap para sa akin, kasi siyempre bata. Dati kasi naisasama ko siya. Pero this time, bawal e so, dumadalaw lang siya sa set pero sa malayo. So ‘yun, I really had to explain it to her. Eventually naman nakapag-adjust din siya,” she related.

It was a bit easier for Aiko Melendez.

“I am pretty blessed ‘cause my daughter Marthena is already 14, at si Andre, my boy, is already 22 so, they understand na why kailangan mawala ako nang matagal. Pero mahirap sa kanila kapag sa gabi. They are used to having me around kasi for so long at name-miss nila ako at ako din name-miss ko sila and thank God with technology we still get to bond so nabawasan kahit paano ‘yung anxiety namin.”

Co-star Wendell Ramos on his part said he shared with his kids the importance of him having to dive into work despite the pandemic.

“Ang pinaka sinabi ko sa kanila na hindi ko lang ito ginagawa para sa akin, o para sa amin kung hindi para na rin sa industriya ng entertainment as a whole. Na kailangan ko magtrabaho because yung mga tao sa production umaasa dito.

“Mahirap din sa umpisa para sa kanila kasi siyempre nag-aalala din sila para sa akin pero gaya ng ginagawa nga ng mga ating OFWs, I assure them that I’m good, I’m well, para hindi sila gaano magalala.”

Show director Gina Alajar meanwhile, cited the numerous improvements the new normal allowed them as actors.

“Una na diyan ‘yung nakahanda na lahat, naka-schedule na lahat. I mean, matagal na namin din na request ito na kinamatayan na lang ng iba nating mga kasamahan like sina Rudy Fernandez, sina Lino Brocka, ipinaglaban nila ito dati and now it is happening!

“Very positive eh, tapos lahat ng script, ready ang set, ready ang artista, naka-schedule ng maayos ang lahat and we always finish in time! 12 hours lang ang work namin! Usually hindi ganun. Ngayon nagkaroon ng maayos na sistema. And everybody’s working at their best kasi hindi pagod hindi puyat so yeah, if there’s anything positive to be gleamed sa nangyayari sa atin sa gitna ng pademya, ito ay ang improvement sa working conditions namin sa industriya.”

Veteran actress Chanda Romero agreed quipping simply, “Yeah, we did pull something good about this bad situation and for that we could only be grateful.”

“Prima Donnas” is to air its much-awaited fresh episodes beginning Monday (Nov. 9) 3:25 p.m., on GMA7.
