Filipino singer Maria Laroco did not win in the reality show X-Factor UK in 2018 but British producer Simon Cowell is not giving up on her.
During a press conference held at Iagos Restaurant in Morato, Quezon City last Tuesday, Laroco revealed a phone conversation with Cowell who invited her to join the British reality show once more.
“Pinababalik po kasi ako ni Simon Cowell sa X Factor UK. Last year, the reality show was celebrity edition. Hindi ko pa talaga masabi kung sasali ako this season,” said Laroco.
The phone conversation happened late last year, she said.
“Sabi pa po niya ‘if you cannot come back to UK for the next season, I’ll be the one to fly to the Philippines just to get you back,” Laroco said.
She added: “I might really come back (in X Factor UK) if there’s a chance to really go there this 2020. I also really want to represent our country in the international contest.”
During her stint in the reality show, Laroco received outstanding reviews for her performances especially her audition piece “Purple Rain” (popularized by Prince) and later on finished as one of the Top 6 in the Girls Category.
With the mentorship and guidance of Simon Cowell, more opportunities opened up for Laroco.
Aside from her X-Factor UK stint, she joined the Great British Festival Singing Competition and emerged as grand finalist.
Laroco, 19, started singing when she was three years old. Her mother would encourage her to sing for their visitors who would visit their home in Pangasinan.
Lea Salonga is one of her great influences when it comes to Broadway songs. Her other idols include Aretha Franklin and Liza Minnelli.
In 2019, she returned to the Philippines to continue what she started. As a recording artist, she already received different awards: the 2019 Top Global Teen Performing Artist, 2019 Kuala Lumpur Awardee, 2019 Asia’s Music Princess given by Global Music, and 2019 Excellence Award Pasadong Mang-aawit sa mga Kabataan.
Laroco released her first album entitled “Just Maria” which is available in the Philippines and in the US. In the latter part of 2019, she became the first solo artist launched by EMC Entertainment, Inc. “Pilit Pa Rin” is her latest recording under EMC Entertainment, Inc which can be streamed through various platforms such as iTunes and Spotify.
Laroco is gearing up for her first solo dinner concert “First Love” which would be held at Iagos Restaurant. Dinner buffet will start at 7 p.m. and the show will start at 9 p.m. It will be directed by Mannix Baja under EMC Entertainment, Inc with Hanzel Villafuerte as Media Communications Head.
