The dolphins were seen by 31-year-old Canadian travel blogger Kyle Jennerman, who posted the photos of the pod on his Facebook page, BecomingFilipino.

Jennerman said the dolphins swam past Creamsand Beach in Cateel.

“Is this a common occurrence? I don’t know. In my four months waking up here, this is the first time I have seen them,” he wrote in the caption.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Davao, which also shared the photos, said the dolphins were “apex (predators) and are among the marine species which hugely contribute in determining the health condition of our oceans”.

“Having them seen crossing the oceans of Davao Oriental likely speaks (of) a good sign,” the DENR-Davao added.

Jennerman added that sighting the dolphins was “a reminder”.

“We have to do more. We must cherish and respect this environment we now have the privilege to be a part of. Davao Oriental is home for so many beautiful things… like these dolphins that gently glided past us this morning,” he added.

“Let us all respect what is around us, and actively support it in positive ways,” he said.
