The National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL) has thanked Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta for his “swift action” on the plea for furlough of detained activist Reina Mae Nasino to attend the wake and burial of her daughter Baby River.
In an electronic mail received by Peralta’s office last Tuesday night, the NUPL –– through lawyer Josa Deinla –– said: “Please convey our thanks to the Chief Justice for his swift action.”
Peralta had sent a memorandum to Manila City regional trial court (RTC) Judge Virgilio Macaraig “to cause the immediate resolution of the Very Urgent Motion for Furlough filed by the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers, counsel for Movant Reina Mae Nasino.”
Judge Macaraig last Tuesay granted a three-day furlough to Nasino.
But on Wednesday, Oct. 14, upon motion of prison authorities, the judge modified his order and reduced Nasino’s furlough from three straight days to only two days at three hours per day.
