Young actor Louise Abuel bagged an international plum recently, having won the Best Actor award under the Asian Film Competition category in a Bangladesh-based film festival for his performance in coming-of-age movie “Edward.”
Though he wasn’t able to fly to the east of India on the Bay of Bengal to collect the trophy from the Dhaka International Film Festival. , one of the film producers, Ferdy Lapuz, accepted it for him.
“Congratulations Louise Abuel for winning the Best Actor Award for Thop Nazareno’s 2019 Cinemalaya film EDWARD at the 18th Dhaka International Film Festival held from January 11 to 19, 2020. This year’s feature film jury are Joanna Kos-Krauze, chairman (Poland), Mostofa Sarwar Farooki (Bangladesh), Päivi Kapiainen-Heiskanen (Finland) and Miguel Ángel Jiménez (Spain)…,” Ferdy wrote on social media with hashtag “#ProudProducer.”
The movie is set in a public hospital where a young boy experiences rite of passage as he takes care of his ailing father. Also in the cast are Dido dela Paz, Elijah Canlas, Manuel Chua, Ella Cruz.
“Edward” was an entry in last year’s Cinemalaya Film Festival, which took home three plums. These are Best Supporting Actress for Ella, and Best Production Design and Special Jury Prize.
