“Aquaman” actor Jason Momoa has not shaved his signature beard since 2012. But he just did for a greater cause.
In a four-minute YouTube video titled “Goodbye Drogo… I SHAVED!” and uploaded Wednesday, Momoa and a companion can be seen in a deserted and rocky place filled with thrash, mostly plastics and started shaving his beard.
“Goodbye DROGO, AQUAMAN, DECLAN, BABA! I’m shaving this beast off, it’s time to make a change. A change for the better…for my kids, for your kids, the world. Let’s make a positive change for the health of our planet. Let’s clean up our oceans and our land. Join me on this journey. Let’s make a switch to INFINITELY RECYCLABLE aluminium. Water in cans, NOT plastic,” he wrote in the video’s description.
The 39-year-old actor said he did it to raise awareness in recycling and to stop using plastic bottles.
He urged the viewers to use aluminium instead as an alternative to plastic bottles.
Momoa cited that 75% of all aluminium used are still in circulation today and that it is 100% recyclable.
“You drink [from] the can and in about 60 days it will be back, 100%, infinitely recyclable,” he said.
The actor also showed different kinds of water – spring, alkaline, still, and sparkling – all packaged in recycled aluminium cans.
“There’s a change coming, and it’s aluminium. We’ve got to get rid of these plastic water bottles. Aquaman’s trying to do the best he can,” he added.
Momoa is also known for playing Khal Drogo in HBO’s hit show “Game of Thrones.”
