Mayor Carmelita Abalos said the donated personal protective gears were from Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.

“We will distribute these face masks and face shields to our frontliners, particularly to our personnel assigned outdoors,” Abalos said Monday.

The mayor expressed her gratitude to the senator for the donation, which will help curb the spread of the disease in the city and protect residents from infection.

Amid the continuous spread of the dreaded disease, the national government has mandated the wearing of face masks and face shields as an added protection from the virus.

Latest data from the City Health Department showed that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Mandaluyong rose to 5,133 cases as of October 12 after 37 new cases were recorded.

Of the total confirmed cases, 469 are still active, while 4,505 patients have already recovered from the disease.

However, the number of COVID-19 deaths also increased to 159 after three new deaths were recorded.

To stop the further spread of the disease, the local government has been conducting mass testing of residents who have possibly contracted the disease and provide them with immediate medical intervention.
