A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Surigao del Norte on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The earthquake, which occurred at 3:18 p.m., was tectonic in origin and was traced 24 kilometers northeast of Burgos, Surigao del Norte.
The quake had a depth of 26 km, with the following registered intensities: Intensity III – Surigao City; Rosario, Agusan del Sur
PHIVOLCS said the quake was also felt under the following instrumental Intensities: Intensity III – Surigao City; Intensity II – Borongan City, Eastern Samar; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; Intensity I – Catbalogan City, Samar
The quake was not expected to cause any damage to property. However, aftershocks are likely to happen.
