National triathlete Nikko Huelgas said Sunday the triathlon community is looking forward to returning to action as guidelines are being readied that complies with health protocols set by the government.
Huelgas, a two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, said the government has already allowed biking, running and swimming – the three sports in triathlon.
However, as a sports itself, triathlon is totally different since it requires continues action of ‘run-bike-swim’ for a participant.
“Bukas na ang biking and running, kaya for now bike and run na muna kami,” said Huelgas, chairman Philippine Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission.
“Pero gumagawa na ng guideline ngayon ang Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP).”
The guidelines, Huelgas said, will be submitted to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease, the government’s arm dealing with the coronavirus situation.
Last May, the IATF has approved running, biking, golf, swimming, tennis, badminton, equestrian and skateboarding in places that are under general community quarantine.
