Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup champion San Miguel Beer will compete in the East Asia Super League Terrific 12 on September 17 to 22 in Macau, China.
Powerhouse Asian teams from China, Japan and South Korea as well as TNT KaTropa and Blackwater from the PBA will see action in the short tournament.
San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria hopes joining the tilt will boost the Beermen’s Grand Slam bid in the upcoming Season 44 Governors’ Cup that will kick off on September 20.
“As of now, I can’t predict the outcome of our campaign since I don’t know who our opponents will be. All of them are coming from championships,” said Austria on Tuesday during the team’s victory celebration on Tuesday night at the San Miguel Corporation office.
“We will use this Terrific 12 campaign as a preparation for the third conference. That’s the goal if we get lucky,” added Austria, referring to their dream Grand Slam.
The Beermen won the Philippine Cup crown at the expense of Magnolia in seven games while they defeated the KaTropa in six games to win the Commissioner’s Cup title on Friday.
San Miguel Beer will be fortifying its lineup for the Terrific 12 tournament with Columbian Dyip import Lester Prosper and Dez Wells, SMB’s import for the upcoming Governors’ Cup.
