Away from the main hub of the 30th SEA Games – the New Clark City Sports Complex in Tarlac – construction at the Miguel Romero Polo Field in Calatagan, Batangas is ongoing at feverish pace.
The Bamboo Pavilion is majestically designed to impress royalties of Brunei and Malaysia and the region’s rich and famous who are expected to watch the matches.
Rep. Mikee Romero (1Pacman Party-list) of the Philippine National Federation of Polo Players said the that Brunei Sultan – Hassanal Bolkiah – and the Malaysian King –Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah – are likely to be among spectators.
“We’re now excited since works are in full blast; we want to have a first-class field for competition,” said Romero, one of the founding directors of the group. “We want to show that we are capable of hosting an event as big as the SEA Games.”
Romero is hoping that the field and other facilities will be completed weeks before the Nov. 25 opening.
Romero is likewise confident that with the election of Rep. Tolentino as president of the Philippine Olympic Committe, polo will continue to flourish.
“Sports is in good hands since unity is Tolentino’s foremost goal,” said Romero who once headed the shooting and cycling association.
