Manny Pacquiao said on Monday that his strategy in fight with Keith Thurman worked out perfectly well.
“Naipakita natin na hindi mo ako basta-bastang pwedeng i-underestimate or take it lightly. Or take it easy. I hope naitatak no’n sa isip niya na, ingat ka,” Pacquaio said in an interview with ANC Early Edition, referring to the 1st round knockdown of Thurman.
He said that the American boxer knew that he would be going for his face, that’s why he aimed for his body instead.
“My opponent was a good talker. Tapos sabi ko naman, it won’t help him; it would help me because it gave me more motivation to work hard , and focus on training,” Pacquiao added.
The boxing champ also admitted that his post-fight recovery was a lot different this time. “Recovery was faster when I was young. Dati nakaka-recover ka overnight. This time, you need more days.”
Pacquiao claimed Thurman’s WBA title via split decision, 115-112, 115-112, 114-115, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last July 21.
Pacquiao said he was open for a potential rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“No problem for me because I am still active in this sport; this is for him to answer because he is retired and he needs to announce that he will come back,” he said.
He said that fans wanted a Mayweather rematch because they did not believe he lost in their previous bout.
Pacquiao also earlier hinted on Twitter of a possible rematch.
“You come to my fight and then use my name in a post, but I’m the one that is trying to stay relevant?” the eight-division champ wrote.
It was on May 2015 when the two staged their first bout in Las Vegas.
Their fight was dubbed as “Fight of the Century” and “Battle of the Greatness” with Mayweather winning via unanimous decision to staying undefeated.
