Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena finished his World Indoor Tour campaign with a bronze medal at the Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland on Thursday.
Obiena was able to clear the 5.80-meter mark but did it on his third try paving the way for American Sam Kendricks and Polish Piotr Lisek to seize the gold and silver medals, respectively.
“Last leg of the World Indoor Tour has come to an end with the conclusion of the Copernicus Cup here in Torun. Going ‘home’ with a (bronze medal emoji) and lots and lots of learning plus some bruises,” wrote Obiena in a Facebook post following his bronze medal finish.
The Tokyo Olympics-bound Obiena tried to hurdle the 5.87 mark but failed to do so in three attempts.
Obiena impressed and hauled medals in this world tour, having won gold in the Istaf Indoor Athletics on February 6 in Berlin, silver in the PSD Indoor Meeting in Dortmund and another silver in the Orlern Cup in Lodz, Poland.
The 25-year-old Obiena also reset his personal best and the Philippine record thrice, clearing 5.62 m in the Karlsruhe World Indoor Meeting on January 30, 5.80 m in the Istaf meet, and 5.86 m in the Orlen Cup.
