Local top junior netter Alex Eala and Indonesian partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho inched closer to the Australian Open Juniors Championships girls doubles title after storming into the semifinals on Wednesday in Melbourne.
The fourth-seeded Eala and Nugroho survived an opening round scare and edged seventh pick Aubane Droguet and Selena Janicijevic of France 7-6 (2), 6-2 in 70 minutes.
The victory moved Eala and Nugroho two wins away from their first-ever title as a pair since playing together at the 2020 AGL Loy Yang Tralalgon Junior International last week where they made it to the semifinals.
Eala and Nugroho currently battle top seed Kamilla Bartone of Latvia and Linda Fruhvirtova of Czech Republic, who won over No. 6 Czech Linda Noskova and Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva 6-1, 7-5.
Noskova and Selekhmeteva boast of a 2019 US Open Juniors Championship doubles crown.
