BuCor Spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said the riot took place at 1 a.m. inside Quadrant 4 of the Maximum Security Compound of the NBP.

“There were nine lifeless bodies and 7 PDLs who were injured,” he said.

Those who died included six members from Sputnik gang and two from the Commando gang. It is not know yet which group the other dead PDL belonged to.

“Nung umaga ay na-contain kaagad namin yung kaguluhan at hindi po kumalat sa ibang quadrant (That morning we are able to contain the riot and did not spread to the other quadrants),” said Chaclag who noted that security personel of the both the BuCor and the Philippine National Police (PNP) responded to the incident.

In the meantime, Chaclag said investigation still continues as to what sparked to fight between the two groups.

After the riot which was stopped at around 3 a.m., Chaclag said clearing operations were immediately conducted and weapons were discovered.

Though there are always inspections against contraband, the spokesman admitted that inmates still manage to make and hide weapons.
