The Philippine National Police (PNP) advised the public to always be alert and safe after a magnitude 5.7 earthquake was felt in Metro Manila and other nearby provinces Monday afternoon.

“In view of the earthquake felt at around 5:13 p.m. today (Monday), the PNP asks the public to remain calm; follow the drill and procedures on earthquake if necessary,” said Police Colonel Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson.

“We assure our people that the PNP will stay to provide security, remain alert, and ready to respond for any call for help,” he added.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake struck Castillejos, Zambales at 5:11 p.m.

It has a depth of 21 kilometers and was felt in Metro Manila and other adjacent provinces.

Several employees along Ayala Avenue, Makati City were seen queueing outside their offices minutes after the quake was initially felt.
