Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte will appeal to have the deadline of tax payments moved from January 20 to February 2, upon the prodding of the city’s business community.
“Our business community has requested for additional period of time to allow them to fully comply with the requirements and obligation to the city,” said Belmonte.
“In Quezon City, we are open to suggestions and appeal. If they are reasonable, then we would accede to these requests,” she added.
Belmonte disclosed that she will ask the City Council to grant the plea for extension, saying such a move requires its approval.
As of Jan. 15, the Quezon City government reported that income from business permits and real property tax rose 16 and 29 percent, respectively, over the same period last year.
“The percentage would have been higher if there had been work on Jan. 13,” added Belmonte.
