A red-listed fugitive of the International Police (Interpol), who has been in hiding for the past four years, was presented by Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso to media Monday afternoon.
Domagoso presented Jasper Delos Angeles, 31, to the public after his capture by elements of the Special Mayor’s Reaction Team (SMaRT) in Coron, Palawan where he has been hiding.
Delos Angeles was charged before the Manila Region Trial Court (MRTC) in 2015 with rape. He was accused of sexually abusing a university student after spiking her drink with a drug at a bar in Manila.
SMaRT head Police Major Rosalino Ibay Jr. also presented to the media a letter from the victim, dated July 15, asking Domagoso’s assistance to carry out the suspect’s arrest.
Ibay said the suspect has been hiding from authorities for almost two years since the arrest warrant was released.
In fact, January 28 last year, authorities confirmed through a background investigation that Angeles left the country for Singapore and went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
He then slipped back into the country using the “backdoor” to Palawan.
Authorities confirmed his presence in the country through a suspected Facebook account. In fact, he just got married May this year in his hometown.
He was captured in Sitio Dipulao Barangay Poblacion 6, Coron, Palawan last Friday, July 26, just a few days after the victim sent a letter to the Office of the Mayor.
The court ordered no bail.
Meanwhile, the victim is now a nurse in a foreign country.
