SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go led the relief operations in Meycauayan, Bulacan on Wednesday and handed over much-needed aid to 758 families displaced by floods brought about by Typhoon “Ulysses” (international name: “Vamco”).
Go and his team distributed food packs, cash and other assistance at the Malhacan Integrated School, where residents from coastal villages submerged by the floods were currently residing.
Residents from the villages of Malhacan, Tugatog, Saluysoy, Bancal, Banga, Bayugo, St Francis Gasak, Zamora, Calvario and Longos were the beneficiaries of food packs, face masks, face shields, vitamins, bicycles and tablets.
The senator and his team were accompanied by representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Trade and Industry, National Housing Authority and Department of Agriculture to assess assistance needed further by the residents.
During the distribution, a strict compliance with necessary health protocols was made to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.
“Kami po ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, kayo ang nagbibigay inspirasyon sa amin upang lalo pa namin kayo matulungan at mapaglingkuran. Tulong-tulong para malagpasan natin ang lahat ng pagsubok sa buhay (You inspire the President and me to strive and give you better service and assistance. With your help, we would surpass these challenges),” Go said.
The senator said he and his team would work harder to give more aid to those in need.
“Huwag kayong magpasalamat sa amin ni Pangulong Duterte. Kami ang dapat magpasalamat sa inyo dahil binigyan nyo kami ng pagkakataon na maserbisyuhan kayo (You need not thank us for this. It was you who gave us this rare opportunity to be of service to all our fellow Filipinos),” he added.
The senator’s team was welcomed and accompanied by Bulacan Fourth District Rep. Henry Villarica, his wife Meycauayan Mayor Linabelle Villarica and some members of the City Council.
Last week, the senator held relief operations at the towns of Calumpit and Marilao assisted by Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando. Fernando thanked President Duterte, Senator Go and his team for all the help given to the province especially during these difficult and challenging times.
