SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union: Regional officials and district engineers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Region 1, headed by Ronnel Tan, have announced the completion of various major infrastructure projects that they undertook in the towns and cities of Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte from the month of November 1 up to the present.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, Tan said finished were the new P29-million municipal hall of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, which was turned over to town officials recently, and a multipurpose building in Barangay Herrero-Perez, Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
The multipurpose building in Barangay Herrero-Perez, which will be utilized as the new barangay (village) hall, has a library and a conference room suitable for meetings even under the coronavirus pandemic.
Also completed by the Second District Engineering Office, headed by Mathias Malenab, and by the First District Engineering Office, led by Maria Venus Torio, were three major access roads, leading to tourist destinations in the towns of Piddig, Paoay and Burgos in Ilocos Norte.
The Piddig project cost P14 million; the Paoay project, P46 million; and the Burgos project, P9 million.
Also completed was the rehabilitation of the P11-million Santiago-Banayoyo-Lidlidda-San Emilio-Quirino Road in San Emilio, Ilocos Sur.
Meanwhile, Tan said the three Ligtas Covid (Covid-free) health centers established in Pangasinan were already turned over to city government officials of Alaminos while the two others, located in Sta. Barbara and Burgos towns, were also turned over to the provincial government officials headed by Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino 3rd.
The center in Barangay Bolaney, Alaminos City has a nursing station and can accommodate at least 24 Covid patients while the one in Barangay San Vicente in Burgos also has a nursing station and has 25 beds.
The Ligtas Covid health center in Barangay Tebag West in Sta. Barbara has a nursing station too and has 40 beds.
Josefina Oamar, DPWH Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office focal person, said as of Nov. 17, 2020, Region 1 had a total of 13 DPWH regional evacuation centers built that have since been converted into healthcare and quarantine facilities.
The evacuation centers are located in Paoay, Banna and Batac City in Ilocos Norte; Vigan City, Ilocos Sur; Bacnotan, Agoo and the Government Center, Sevilla, San Fernando City, La Union; and in San Nicolas, Dasol, Alaminos City, Calasiao, Manaoag and Urbiztondo in Pangasinan.
A total of seven local government unit buildings were also converted into healthcare and quarantine facilities for probable Covid-19 patients.
Also completed were five anti-flood control projects, located in the city of Alaminos and the towns of Tayug and Umingan in Pangasinan; the town of Burgos in La Union; and the town of San Juan in Ilocos Sur.
Tan also reported the completion of slope construction in Barangay Poblacion in Alaminos City to protect agricultural land along the river banks at a cost of P36 million; in Barangay Guzon, Tayug, Pangasinan at P46 million; and in Barangay Barat, Umingan also in Pangasinan at P28 million.
He also reported the completion of a concrete dike in Barangay Mindoro, Bangar, La Union for P9 million and an anti-flooding wall by the Ilocos Sur First District Engineering Office, headed by Reynaldo Organo in Barangay Guimod Norte, San Juan, Ilocos Sur for P38 million.
