Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Sunday before dawn conducted a surprise inspection at the Andres Bonifacio Shrine in Lawton following clearing operations at the monument and the park surrounding it.
“About one week ago, punong puno po ito ng mga nakasementong bahay, banyo, tindahan, for six years nanatili sila dito,” Domagoso said.
“Ang linis linis na. Hindi na rin mapanghi. Wala ng tae. Bagong pintura na rin (ang bantayog ni) Emilio Jacinto,” he said.
It can be recalled that he accidentally stepped on human feces while he was inspecting the monument on Wednesday.
Domagoso also checked the newly-installed capiz lanterns hanging on trees at the park behind the Bonifacio monument.
The new lights were installed by personnel from the Office of the City Engineer of the Manila local government on Friday.
“Ang ganda ng mga ilaw. Hindi ka na kakabahan (kapag maglalakad dito),” the Mayor said.
While inspecting the monument and the park, a citizen approached Domagoso to thank him for the city government’s efforts in cleaning up the city.
“Ang ganda na po (ng park). Panggabi po kasi ako, tapos dati mga alas dos (ng madaling araw), takot ako umuwi (sa lugar na ito). Ngayon, parang kampante na ako,” the citizen told the Mayor.
While the cleanup efforts were successfully conducted, he still saw pieces of trash such as food packaging and plastic bags scattered around the monument.
“Sana ho, kapag pumapasyal kayo, ‘yung mga pinagkainan niyo, sana hindi niyo ikinakalat. Nakakalungkot lang, itinatapon nila ‘yung basura nila kung saan saan, pero we’ll still continue to clean it,” he said.
Domagoso broadcast the surprise inspection via Facebook Live at around 1:30 am. The live video was viewed by more than 84,000 netizens while it was being broadcast.
