With his almost nightly inspections of the city’s streets to his hectic schedule from early in the morning to late at night, many are wondering if Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso could still find time to sleep.
In previous interviews on television he revealed that he was the type of person who was a “masan” or short for “masandal lang tulog”, or someone who could lull himself to sleep by just leaning on something.
He also explained that having been part of the working class in his younger days, he became very resourceful in finding the perfect opportunity to rest, despite his busy schedule. This remains an ability which he has taken with him up to now that he is already the mayor of Manila.
His hectic schedule only permits him to sleep for just a few hours, especially after he started posting live vlog-type videos of him patrolling the streets of Manila late at night or even in the wee hours.
The Manila mayor’s schedule usually demands that he be at the city hall by around 7 or 8 in the morning, while his last commitment for the day may require him to stay beyond 5 p.m.
As to why the Manila mayor is seemingly working himself to the point of exhaustion, perhaps the best answer was a quote from the local chief executive which the Manila Public Information posted on Facebook: “I have no right to rest if I really want to fix our city.”
Mayor Isko is a true blue Manileño, growing up in poverty-stricken areas of Tondo before becoming an actor.
Because of his style of leadership and the notable accomplishments he has achieved in a short span of time, an official from the US Embassy even called him a “rock star” and is considered by many as a trailblazer as far as local officials are concerned.
In one of his recent inspection of Manila, he noticed a mound of garbage along Carriedo Street and got irked, ordering the relief of the Plaza Miranda Community Precinct commander.
Prior to this incident, he also ordered the relief of the chief of the Lawton precinct chief, after finding the Bonifacio Shrine littered with human feces.
On whether the Manila Mayor can keep this breakneck pace up, especially with so much still left to be done, only time will tell.
