SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go visited Barangay Looc in Mandaue City on Thursday, December 17, to meet with families affected by a fire incident early this month.
In the spirit of sharing this Christmas season, he provided aid to help the community recover amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
“Malapit sa puso namin ni Pangulong Duterte ang mga Cebuano dahil mga Bisaya din kami at probinsyano (To my fellow Visayans and country folk, you all have a special place in the hearts of President Duterte and myself),” he said.
He distributed high-grade reusable face masks and face shields to 653 fire victims, comprising 152 families. In strict compliance with health and safety protocols, the activity was held at the Barangay Looc Gym.
Additionally, selected beneficiaries received bicycles so that they could travel with ease amid limited public transportation options. Others were given tablets so that their children could take part in online classes under the blended learning approach, implemented in schools.
The senator offered to assist beneficiaries and their loved ones that were in need of medical treatment.
He also informed residents they may seek medical assistance from the government through the Malasakit Centers at the city’s Eversley Childs Sanitarium and General Hospital, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and St. Anthony Mother and Child Hospital in Cebu City; Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital in Lapu-Lapu City; and Talisay District Hospital in Talisay City.
For their untiring service and efforts to extend support to Cebuanos, the senator recognized Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV), OPAV Assistant Secretary Girlie Veloso, OPAV Associate Secretary Jonjie Gonzales, Sixth District Rep. Emmarie Ouano-Dizon, Mayor Jonas Cortes, Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede and Barangay Captain Allan Siazon.
“Ang pinakamabigat sa mga Bisaya na aking natutunan kay President Duterte ay ang pagtanaw ng utang na loob. Ito’y hindi dapat kinakalimutan. Kaya gusto namin kayo pasalamatan dahil binigyan niyo kami ng pagkakataon na magserbisyo sa inyong lahat (What I have learned from President Duterte is that Visayans give a lot of weight on the sense of gratitude. This should not be forgotten. The President and I wish to thank you because you gave us the opportunity to serve you all),” said Go.
