The Abalos Family continues to prove their political might in the City of Mandaluyong after three of their family members got the three top positions in the midterm elections.
Incumbent Mayor Carmelita “Menchie” Abalos of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) vanquished her challenger with a whooping 128,661 votes against the 8,589 votes of independent Florencio Solomon.
With a massive lead of 120,072, Abalos will continue serving as city mayor for the second time around.
Not only did the Abalos matriarch garner the most votes during the election. Her two children were also elected as the top councilors for the city’s two districts.
Reelectionist Charisse Abalos-Vargas (PDP-Laban) topped the list of councilors for the First District of Mandaluyong with 73,915 votes.
Her brother Benjamin Abalos III (PDP-Laban), on the other hand, ranked the highest for the city’s Second District garnering 44,635 votes.
Carmelita replaced her husband, former Mayor Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos II, after his three consecutive terms as the local chief executive from 2007 to 2016.
“Sa lahat ng Mandaleño, maraming-maraming salamat sa muli ninyong pagtitiwala sa akin (To all Mandaleño, thank you very much for continuing to trust me,” Mayor Abalos said in a video message posted on her Facebook page.
“Hinding-hindi ko po bibiguin ang inyong pagmamahal na binigay sa akin (I will never fail the love that you gave to me),” Abalos added.
