Six members of the terrorist group Daulah Islamiyah were killed after one of them resisted arrest in Polomolok, South Cotabato on Friday, the Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) reported.
WesMinCom chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., in a report, identified one of the suspects as Arafat Bulacon, alias “Maula,” who shot it out with the military and the police who were serving him a warrant of arrest for murder at Purok 6 in Barangay Koronadal Proper around 5 a.m.
Vinluan said the suspect initiated the firefight with the 4th Special Action Battalion of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force and 5th Special Forces Battalion (SFBn).
Also killed in the gunbattle were five local terrorists and wounded were two Special Forces personnel.
Recovered from the Daulah Islamiyah members were one 5.56 M4 rifle, two 12 gauge shotguns, two cal. 38 revolvers, one 5.56 pistol, one improvised explosive device and one Islamic State flag, said Lt. Col. Randy Banaag, commanding officer of the 5th SFBn.
Brig. Gen. Roy Galido, 601st Infantry Brigade commander, said Bulacon was one of the perpetrators of a bombing in General Santos City in 2018.
“He was also involved in different criminal activities in South Cotabato,” he added in a statement.
