More than 309 million worth of shabu was seized in the past 30 days of aggressive anti-illegal drugs operations across the country, the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed on Monday, Oct. 5.
PNP chief Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan said the operations conducted across the country also resulted in the arrest of 5,552 drug personalities, some of them considered as high-value targets at the provincial and regional levels.
The figure does not include the P45 million worth of shabu seized in Barangay Inayawan in Cebu City on Monday that also resulted in the arrest of two big-time drug pushers.
Brig. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, director of the Police Regional Office 7, said a total of six kilos of shabu were confiscated from Reynaldo Atillo and Reynnte Tacatanin during the buy-bust operation.
Cascolan said the P309 million worth of illegal drugs was a result of the series of operations from September 2 to October 2.
Aside from illegal drugs, he said 5,906 persons were arrested in various police operations and 1,402 guns were confiscated.
The PNP is one of the lead agencies tapped by President Duterte to fulfill his promise of ending the illegal drugs problem in the country.
But the promise to end the illegal drugs trade in three to six months resulted in various controversies that include allegations of extra-judicial killings, violations of human rights, extortion racket on drug suspects, and the death of children in the conduct of operations.
