Will former Vice President and Kapamilya veteran broadcast journalist Noli de Castro transfer to another TV network?
That’s the end-goal of newly-appointed PTV General Manager Kat de Castro when she joined the government-owned network recently.
His name is Kabayan so bagay siya para sa bayan,” reveals Kat, during the relaunch of “Ulat Bayan” primetime newscast held at a hotel in Quezon City Wednesday.
“Pero may sinusunod po siyang contract at nagbitiw na siya ng salita dati na he will stay in ABS-CBN. Ni-re-respeto ko po iyon. Sa kanila pa rin ako nakatira. So araw araw ko po siyang kinukulit,” she adds.
Asked about her father’s initial reaction to her invitation, Kat laughs and says: “Seryoso ka ba?”
Responding, Kat tells her father: “Opo. I’ve never been so serious in my entire life. Daddy, if you would like to help us out in PTV why not, sabi kong ganyan.”
“I know naman my dad.
On Sept.
“But my dad knows I never give up easily. It’s an everyday thing.
Kat, an award-winning TV host on ABS-CBN before she transferred to other networks, says she consulted her dad first before she transferred to PTV.
“Sabi ko, “dad I resigned sa IBC.’ But the President did not accept my resignation. So he said ‘PTV ka na lang.’ So sabi ‘okay po. But I need to talk to my dad. My dad said ‘gusto mo ba? Are you up to the challenge?’ Sabi ko ‘yes dad. Sabi niya basta pagbutihin mo.
Kat says her father watches “Ulat Bayan” since the PTV newscast comes in 30 minutes earlier than “TV Patrol” which her dad anchors. The rebranded “Ulat” newscast is composed of Erwin Tulfo, Aljo Bendijo, Alex Santos and Diane Querrer. It airs daily 6-7 p.m.
“Nanonood siya because before I decided to revamp Ulat Bayan, I asked him ‘dad what would make ‘Ulat Bayan’ work?’ He has a lot of advices. Sabi niya next time I won’t say anything na lang.
Despite being on rival networks, Kat describes the competition with her father as healthy. “Walang selosan. Sometimes he gives advices to the anchors like Erwin Tulfo and Aljo Bendijo. They all grew up under the wings of my dad.”
Kat says that this is the first time that PTV conducted a media conference in recent years.
On the ratings game, Kat says she wants PTV to reach No. 2 in the ratings. “Marami pa kaming aayusin in terms of our reach like yung mga transmitters and towers.
