Earlier this year, Korean Wave fans in the Philippines were quite disappointed that the Running Man: Decade of Laughter tour was forced to be rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic. But Netflix has just announced that there’d be a big treat for us all, as Song Ji Hyo, one of the female hosts of the SBS variety show, is taking the lead in an upcoming romcom on July 8.
Was it Love (Hanggul: 우리, 사랑했을까) is a new K-drama starring Song Ji Hyo. It’s about a single mother named Noh Ae-jeong who has been working as a movie producer for 14 years and who finally gets another chance at love.
Noh will face four men with really different personalities. Korean singer and actor Son Ho Jun plays the role of a bestselling novelist. Song Jong-ho, whom we previously saw in the Netflix original Korean Odyssey, plays the role of a seemingly perfect man with a hidden appeal behind his movie-star persona. Koo Ja-sung, from the drama Secret Life of My Secretary, stars as the teacher of Ae-jeong’s daughter (played by child star Um Chae-young). Lastly, award winning actor Kim Min-jun plays the role of a “scary but sexy” gangster who invests in Ae-jeong’s film.
The series is directed by Kim Do-Hyung, who also helmed the 2006 K-drama Princess Hours, which garnered so much popularity in the Philippines that its dubbed version was aired twice on ABS-CBN.
Catch Song Ji Hyo and the rest of the cast of Was it Love on July 8, as its first episode streams on Netflix the same day it airs on JTBC in South Korea.
