Days after his “surprise” wedding with beauty queen Megan Young, actor-model Mikael Daez shared more details about it.
In an interview, he revealed they were engaged for more than five years though he doesn’t remember the exact date he popped the question.
“Feeling ko early 2014. Alam ko it was in a hotel at nag hang out lang kami. Nag-uusap lang with one another so when I proposed hindi ako prepared, wala akong singsing. ‘Yung singing na nakita niyo on my Instagram post, the blue one, I actually only gave that Jan. 1, 2020.”
Asked why they kept their wedding from the public till it was in progress, the 32-year-old said it wasn’t on purpose.
“Hindi naman namin tinatago. We’re just… hindi lang kami maingay,” he pointed out. “Kasi marami rin naman kaming kausap. We have to talk to our friends and family. We have to talk to the supplier to help us mount the wedding. But we did keep quiet about it and then sinabi namin on the day itself na du’n na lang natin i-post.”
In any case, Mikael and Megan are happy how their wedding turned out, saying they\ve always wanted a non-traditional ceremony.
“It was only maybe middle of last year na naisip naming, ‘Ano ba talaga ‘yung gusto naming?’ And all the way to December last year, hindi pa finalized so parang ang dami pang moving parts.
“But at the end of the day, I can honestly say—I can also speak for my wife Mrs. Megan Daez—that it was so much fun. It was such a beautiful weekend and napakasaya lang namin talaga.”
Their civil wedding was held Jan. 10 at Caleruega Church in Tagaytay. It was attended by 10 persons and they are the couple’s siblings and the two non-showbiz godparents and witnesses.
The second was held Jan. 25 at Subic, Zambales, graced by family and friends.
“Pumili kami ng dalawang sponsors dahil kailangan. One pair lang kasi that was what’s required. Wala kaming best man, entourage, and ‘yun ‘yung gusto namin. I think ‘yung okay dun sa wedding planning namin ni Megan hindi siya naging stressful dahil alam namin kung ano ‘yung gusto namin,” he said.
“Siyempre we respect tradition, na may best man, entourage, pero kasi kami ni Megan, para sa amin, we didn’t need that. Parang hindi namin kailangan ‘yun para ipakita ‘yung pagmamahal namin para sa isa’t-isa.”
How’s it now that they are man and wife?
Well, Mikael noted nothing has changed. They don’t have a house yet so they live in his condo unit.
“Kami ni Megan, we’ve known each other for 10 years and ever since napaka-open namin sa isa’t-isa. Napaka honest namin sa lahat ng problema. Lahat ng mga bagay, problems, personal problems, family problems, work, finances, any kind of problems that I have or she has ay we talk about them.
“So, nu’ng nagpakasal kami the very next day walang nagbago. Siyempre sa more traditional ‘yung wedding, the next day ay moving day, daming mangyayari. But for us, it was very relaxing and we were very thankful na ganu’n ‘yung nangyari.”
Asked if they plan to make a family soon, he said: “I guess at this moment not yet—but you’ll never know. We’ll see. Bahala na.”
In terms of work, Mikael said they will continue to respect each other’s career choices and no limitation will be implemented on the other.
Currently, Mikael is part of the GMA series “Love Of My Life” along with Carla Abellana, Tom Rodriguez, Rhian Ramos and Coney Reyes.
The story revolves around the Gonzales family, who is not like any other. Isabella (Coney), the matriarch, is a rich widow with high standards who would stop at nothing to get what’s best for her family. Nikolai (Mikael), her youngest son, has grown into a rebellious man after causing a traumatic family accident which led to the death of his father. Stefano (Tom), the favorite son, is a family-oriented architect who fathers the child of Kelly (Rhian), his former lover who holds the vengeful heart due to what she has been through in the name of love.
When Stefano crosses paths with Adelle (Carla), a widow with a child who manages her own handicraft business, things begin to get better. Amidst Isabella’s objection towards their relationship, Stefano and Adelle strive to build a normal family. Their seemingly perfect life crumbles not only when Kelly barges into the picture along with estranged Nikolai, but also when Stefano gets diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Directed by Don Michael Perez, it premieres Feb. 3 on GMA Telebabad.
