Citing concerns about false information, Stephen King has decided to dump his Facebook account.
The legendary horror author singled out Facebook’s policy that lets politicians lie in ads.
“I’m quitting Facebook. Not comfortable with the flood of false information that’s allowed in its political advertising, nor am I confident in its ability to protect its users’ privacy,” King said on Twitter.
The best-selling author has written over 50 books, many of which have been adapted into films and TV series. “It” and “The Shining” are two of his most popular and successful Hollywood films.
King currently has 5.6 million followers on Twitter.
On January 10, the social networking site reaffirmed that it will continue to run political ads — despite Google and Twitter already banning them.
Instead, Facebook will just “improve transparency” by making it easier for users to choose to see “fewer” political and social ads on its platform.
