The rain did not dampen the spirits of pageant fans who braved the weather and cheered for the 40 official candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2019 pageant during the annual grand parade held at the Araneta Center in Quezon City Saturday afternoon.
Aboard roadsters courtesy of Miata Club members, the Binibinis went around the Araneta Center wearing floral summer outfits inspired by gumamela flowers designed by Domz Ramos. The shoes were provided by Jojo Bragais.
It rained an hour before the grand parade of beauties kicked off near Novotel Manila Araneta Center at around 4 p.m.
When the rain stopped, organizers decided to start the parade some 30 minutes ahead of the original schedule.
“We decided to start early because it might rain again,” organizers said. The parade also cut routes, it was learned.
Still, pageant fans holding streamers and photos of their favorite candidates crowded the streets of Araneta Center and cheered for the girls.
Filipino-French Julia Saubier of Daraga, Albay was emotional during the parade.
“When I saw the fans, it made me so emotional. Just to see the support, you feel the love and energy from everyone, it made me so emotional. I couldn’t contain my tears,” said Saubier who joined the parade for the first time.
Two-time candidate Samantha Bernardo of Palawan said that she really felt the support of the pageant fans. “I can really feel they want me to win. I was teary-eyed.”
Ilene de Vera, of Mandaue City, Cebu, another first-timer in the parade, said the energy of the fans simply made her happy.
“When we came out (of the basement), I am so happy to see the people cheering for us. I was so happy to see everyone,” De Vera said.
Stella Marquez-Araneta, Chair, Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc., and reigning Bb. Pilipinas queens, also joined the parade.
Pageant fans can still catch more of the Binibinis in the last leg of pre-pageant activities: fashion show and national costume show at New Frontier Theater in QC (May 29), sponsor visit with Pizza Hut Ali Mall (June 3), and grand coronation night at historic Smart Araneta Coliseum (June 9).
