It’s a go for the Miss World Philippines 2020 beauty pageant in December!
This was revealed by the Miss World Philippines organization led by its national director Arnold Vegafria on Facebook June 11.
“This year’s much-awaited Miss World Philippines pageant will finally push through in December,” the announcement on Facebook read.
This year’s contestants will vie for seven pageant crowns: Miss World Philippines 2020, Miss Eco Philippines 2020, Miss Eco Teen Philippines 2020, Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2020, Miss Multinational Philippines 2020, Miss Philippines Tourism 2020 and a soon-to-be-announced major crown.
“Yes! There will be a new crown. Suspense muna. We will make an official announcement soon,” said one of the officials of MWP when asked about the new crown.
Asked about the fate of the staging of Miss World beauty contest in 2020, the same official said: “We have to wait for the official announcement of Miss World contest on that matter.”
The Miss World pageant is the longest-running pageant in history. It is also one of the most elusive international crowns for the Philippines. Since it started in 1951, only one Filipina has won the title – actress Megan Lynne Young. She was crowned in Indonesia in 2013.
MWP is one of few popular Philippine pageants which expressed its intention to push through with the show. Other national pageants have postponed it for 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Actress Michelle Dee, daughter for beauty queen-turned-actress Melanie Marquez, is the reigning Miss World Philippines. She finished in the semis of Miss World 2019 contest in London in December 2019.
Other reigning queens of MWP who will vie in the international arena are Kelley Day for Miss Eco International in Egypt in September; and Isabelle Daza de Leon, Miss Multinational.
