While his contemporaries have earned superstar status, actor-director Michael de Mesa is contented with his achievements, longevity in and contributions to show business.

Michael remains active on TV and in the movies for 46 years now.

“It’s very seldom that I get a lead role na sa akin tumatakbo ang istorya. But it has always been a major supporting role.
“I’m very happy sa takbo ng career ko ngayon. Ever since, hindi talaga ako namili ng role, whether support or a lead role. Kahit ano pa iyan gagawin ko,” he said at the press conference of the movie ‘Marineros: Men in the Middle of the Sea.”

One of the keys to his longevity is he did not limit himself as actor. He played different roles, may it be support or lead and protagonist or villain.

CAST OF ‘Marineros: Men in the Middle of the Sea’

Michael went on hiatus for about five years when he migrated to the United States. However, acting called him back home.

“That’s when I realized who I really am. That’s what pushed me to come abck. Maganda din timing ng pagbabalik ko at naging tuloy-tuloy. Hindi ako nabakante. I’ve been really blessed na hanggang ngayon andito pa din ako,” he said.

Michael stars on the long-running teleserye “Ang Probinsyano.” He is thankful to Coco Martin for the big opporunity of being made cast and one of the show’s directors.

“Being part of ‘Ang Probinsiyano’ ay malaking check iyan sa career ko. I’m very happy to be part of it. I’m really thankful, lalo na kay Coco, siya kasi yung captain of the ship. Yung success of ‘Ang Prtobinsiyano’ is because of him. Even before I joined, matagal na nila akong gustong kunin. But I was under contract with GMA then,” he said.

In “Marineros,” Michael plays former seaman who met an accident that caused his blindness. The movies is a joint production of Golden Tiger Films and Premier-Dreams Productions, Inc.

“I’m a father coming back and trying to win his family again. Mahirap maka-relate, so doon na pumapasok yung imagination mo, yung experiences ng ibang taong bulag.

“Of course, what I can relate the most is being hardworking of a father to give his children a good life. At some point, a father cannot be understood but you will do everything for your family. I’m not saying it’s close to home, but, of course, it happens to many families eho have sacrifices to make. Doon ako nakakarelate bilang tao at bilang artista,” he said.
