According to the LTFRB, a total of 18 units compliant with the Omnibus Franchising Guidelines were launched last week from three bus companies in Zamboanga Del Sur as part of their commitment to support the program.

These modernized PUVs include 10 public utility buses and eight mini buses from Rural Transit Mindanao Incorporated, Dipolog Evergood Tracking Corporation, and AA Starlight Express Corporation.

LTFRB Region 9 Director Nonito Llanos III said this marks the beginning of Zamboanga Peninsula’s participation and compliance with the public utility vehicle modernization (PUVMP) through providing a safe, reliable, convenient, affordable, and environmentally-sustainable public transportation system in the country.

The program, held at the Our Lady of Triumph Institute of Technology in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, began with a motorcade showcasing the units, followed by audio-visual presentations to educate the stakeholders in the region about the modernized public transportation system.

Manufacturers and Automatic Face Collection System (AFCS) providers from the private sector also set up booths with activities and freebies for the attendees.

The PUVMP is the flagship transport project of the administration through the DOTr in a bid to make public transportation in the country safer and more comfortable, and to lessen the environmental pollution brought about by worn-out and smoke-belching PUVs.
