Coleen Garcia could only smile amusedly when told about the rumor that she and Billy might be heading to Splitsville as the wifey allegedly looks quite “unhappy” with the hubby.
“I really don’t know (where that came from). Maybe because they don’t see me often anymore? So they can only guess. Ang hirap din yung hindi nag-a-update (sa social media),” she said in an interview.
As far as online presence goes, she has opted to limit that lately because she wants to “reassess everything.”
“I just feel, like, I really need this time of silence for myself, that I need to take a step back,” she explained. “Pero that doesn’t mean I’m not happy. Actually, I feel I’m at my happiest right now.”
A netizen wrote that Coleen, 27, seemed to have lost her glow because she married young. Billy, 37, immediately slammed the basher.
“Kasi hindi naman talaga totoo,” Coleen said. “And we don’t want people to believe that naman, to people to go on talking like they believe it kung hindi naman talaga totoo.
“I mean, if it’s just really easy to dispel a rumor just like that. Si Billy kasi, mapatol, eh. Tama din lang naman i-answer para malaman din kung ano yung totoo sa hindi.”
On Billy’s sobriety
Coleen described her husband as “different person” now that he has recovered from his dependence on alcohol.
Billy has been sober for over a year now and the wife couldn’t be happier about it.
“Actually, kasi si Billy, he used to drink at home. Nakakaisang bottle siya on his own. It’s really not healthy, it’s not productive, it’s not good for you in any way talaga,” she shared.
Quitting was Billy’s own initiative.
“He’s not the type na kailangan mong sabihin na mag-stop ka ng ganito. Kasi even yosi, nag-stop na siya niyan ng six years. Even yun, ang hirap-hirap nun. You will not know how hard it is to give up cigarette, even any… just, like, general, like, bad habits you’re trying to get rid off,” she said.
“Pero andun yung determination niya, and he really worked hard at it. Talagang pag nag-no na siya… ‘I’m not gonna do this again,’ hindi na talaga siya bumalik.”
Coleen is glad her husband changed his lifestyle.
“He’s cool with his temper and everything, and very reasonable to talk to. Level-headed na, hindi na siya yung nag-a-outburst gaya ng dati. As a wife, yun ang pinaka-happiness talaga na makukuha ko, na I’m able to influence my partner to be better, yung maging source of inspiration ka na ganun. Kasi ganun din naman siya sa akin.”
Coleen currently stars in “Mia,” which had a block screening at SM Megamall last Wed. In the movie, she plays a self-destructive, alcoholic doctor who joined the Doctor to the Barrios program to heal from the tragedy of her fiance’s death. She meets Jay (played by Edgar Allan Guzman), who is an advocate of saving mined-out lands and turning them into rain forests.
Directed by Veronica Velasco and produced by Insight 360 Films, “Mia” is in cinemas nationwide.
