President Duterte told his Cabinet to move faster in addressing the needs of the people affected by the recent typhoons, saying time is of the essence and the people need help immediately.
Duterte made the statement as he led the situation briefing on the effects of Typhoon Ulysses in Camarines Sur on Sunday.
In his remarks, President Duterte reminded the government, particularly the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), to do things fast in order to give the typhoon victims the assistance they need.
“It’s a matter of time how long after this talk here, how long after can the fund be accessed by the local government,” he said.
“Bilisan lang ninyo. Of course, the Cabinet members, alam na nila ‘yan (Just hurry up. Of course, the Cabinet members already know this),” he added.
The President likewise asked the Cabinet to work double-time in delivering the relief assistance to the victims of the typhoon.
“Historically, government moves slowly especially the national government. Cut the time to something like half, or more than. ‘Yan ang reklamo ng tao (That is what the people are complaining about),” Duterte said.
“Especially itong ganito (in times like this), time is of the essence actually here. They need to get hold of those things that are needed by them,” he added.
On Saturday, President Duterte announced that he created an inter-agency task force that will streamline the rehabilitation process in areas affected by the recent typhoons so the government’s assistance can reach the people faster.
