Kapuso actor Dennis Trillo makes his movie comeback in Regal Films’ black comedy “Mina-Anud,” following his 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “One Great Love.”
The movie is inspired by real events that happened in Samar in 2009, wherein a lost cargo adrift at sea was found by the local fishermen.
“The locals didn’t know what it was, they thought it was a baby, or sugar. They confirmed to the authorities that it was actually cocaine,” Dennis told Bulletin Entertainment.
Dennis plays as a surfer as with aactors Matteo Guidicelli and Jerald Napoles.
“My character struggles to provide for his family. When I found out there’s an opportunity to earn money, I took the chance. Of course, there were consequences that happened,” he narrated.
“Mina-Anud,” directed by Kerwin Go, is the closing film at Cinemalaya on Aug. 10. It is his first feature film though who has been made several TV commercials through the years.
“I’m excited for him and I really liked his treatment of the movie. The theme is heavy, so what he did is like black comedy,” Dennis said.
Playing a surfer is close to Dennis’ heart as he likes surfing and scuba diving in his free time. He just practiced surfing more during the shooting. The actor is aware accidents could happen while engaging in water sports.
“One time, my cousin and I were surfing when the weather turned bad. The board hit his head, so he had to get stitches around the eyes,” he said.
Dennis advises surfers to have someone who can look after you and make sure weather and waves are safe for surfing. It is also important for travelers to know where the nearby hospitals are.
“What’s important is to not go alone, especially when the weather’s bad. When the weather’s not clear, the waves are kind of wild. So, it’s better to find someone who can watch over you and ask for help, just in case. You also have to be sure that’s a nearby hospital. Some surf in secret spots, so when accidents happen, it would be far to go to the hospitals. If you want to be safe, you have to make sure you know where to go,” he said.
Dennis is a proud Regal baby. He feels grateful to Regal’s matriarch Lily Monterverde for entrusting him with good projects.
“She gave me my first movie when I was still a nobody. I’m happy that until now she still trusts me to lead in this movie,” he said.
Following “Mina-Anud,” Dennis will work with Star Cinema on a horror movie. This would be his second movie with that film outfit. As more actors from different networks are now working in non-home movie productions, Dennis is happy about the change. Recently, GMA actor Alden Richards starred in Star Cinema’s movie with Kathryn Bernardo.
“I’m happy that they considered someone working from another network to be one of the lead stars in their movie. As an actor, if you don’t get it from where you are, you’re gonna look for it somewhere. They have goals that they want to achieve. It’s also right for actors to explore and not to be confined and to also work with other undiscovered actors that they haven’t worked yet,” he said.
Everything is going well with Dennis in his career and personal life. It has also been years since he and Jennylyn are in a relationship. Are we going to hear wedding bells soon?
“We talk about our future but no definite plans yet. As of now, we still have lots of obligations, contracts and works that we have to fulfill, and we also want to secure our future first,” he said.
Dennis said they are going to reveal once there are wedding plans.
“We won’t hide it if ever it’s going to happen already. Maybe it just won’t make much noise because we don’t want it to be a fiasco or something,” he said.
“Mina Anud” also stars Lou Veloso, Alvin Anson, and Mara Lopez. It opens in cinemas on Aug. 20.
