CL, former member of K-pop girl group 2NE1, has left YG Entertainment after contract renewal negotiations bogged down.

The agency announced its exclusive contract with her had been terminated.

“The company and CL respect each other’s opinions and decided to terminate the exclusive contract. We would like to express our deep gratitude to all the fans that have loved CL, who had many successful activities as an artist under the company,” said YG Entertainment, according Osen and V Today.

CL debuted as the leader of 2NE1 in 2009 along with Dara, Park Bom and Minzy. In April 2016, the agency announced that Minzy would be leaving 2NE1 after her contract’s expiration in May that year.

YG Entertainment issued a statement in November 2016 to reveal that 2NE1 had disbanded. Despite this, CL and Dara signed solo contracts with YG Entertainment.

“After debuting in group 2NE1 under YG in 2009, CL has been active in the role of 2NE1’s leader and rapper, while leading the trend in many diverse fields such as music and fashion.In addition, CL also marked a big step forward for K-pop when becoming the first Korean female soloist to enter Billboard’s Hot 100 chart (October 12, 2016),” the agency noted.

It added, “Hopefully, you guys will show much interest and attention to CL’s new activities. YG will also support the female artist with the same special affection and unchanged trust.”
