Reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray led in donating almost P3 million to three organizations which help in the campaign against poverty and human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) during a simple ceremony held at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center in Quezon City Thursday.
“I am so, so fulfilled that we have transformed the aspect of pageantry where charity is now at the forefront, especially in the Philippines where we are avid lovers of pageantry,” said Gray during the turnover of checks to the beneficiaries.
Joining Gray in handing out the checks were actor RS Francisco, President, Frontrow; and Sam Verzosa, CEO, Frontrow.
The donations were raised through Frontrow Cares, a corporate social responsibility program of Frontrow, a direct selling company in the health, beauty, and wellness industry in the Philippines today. Gray is one of the major celebrity endorsers for the company.
The three beneficiary-groups are Love Yourself (which received P1 million donation), Young Focus (P1 million), and Hope for Change (US$15,000 or roughly over P780,000).
“Love Yourself” is a community of volunteers that help in HIV counseling, testing, and life-coaching.
“Young Focus” gives poor children and young people from Smokey Mountain in Tondo, Manila the chance to develop themselves by providing education and supporting their personal growth.
“Hope for Change” provides education scholarship for students in elementary through college level who live in extreme poverty.
Francisco and Verzosa thanked those who supported their charity works.
“We are in the business of changing peoples’ lives. Two years ago, with the help of Miss Universe Organization, we were able to reach out with a clearer, louder voice to reach out to these organizations that we care for,” said Francisco.
