Angel Locsin is in Forbes Magazine’s annual “Heroes of Philanthropy” list for her efforts in giving out aid to victims of natural disasters.
The list, released Monday, honors “billionaires, entrepreneurs, and celebrities across the region who are committed to solving some of the most pressing issues facing the Asia-Pacific.”
Forbes recognized Angel’s effort in donating P1 million to those hit by the recent earthquakes in Mindanao. She was also hailed for personally making sure the relief goods reached affected residents.
“Over the past decade, Locsin has donated as much as P15 million to causes such as educational scholarships for students, supporting the economic and political rights of indigenous people, and ending violence against women and children,” wrote Grace Chung of Forbes.
“Her donations have also helped roughly 500 families hit by some of the country’s largest disasters: Tropical Storm Ondoy in 2009, Typhoon Habagat in 2012 and Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, one of the deadliest storms on record, leaving 6,300 dead.”
In September, Angel opted to donate money to Bantay Bata instead of using it to buy a gown for the annual ABS-CBN Ball.
Forbes noted that Angel inspires many of her followers to give to community or pay it forward.
“It’s like taking little steps towards substantive, holistic change for the future of the next generations,” the magazine quoted Angel as saying. “The only motivation we need is being part of humanity.” (With report from Marjaleen Ramos)
